NAIS Commission on Accreditation

The NEASC Commission on Independent Schools has been a member of the NAIS Commission on Accreditation since it was created by the NAIS Board in 2001.  The overriding goal of the Commission, which includes representatives from nineteen U.S. and international associations that accredit independent schools, is to assure the quality of independent school accrediting programs.  The cornerstone of this effort is the Commission’s Criteria for Effective Independent School Accreditation Practices, with which all member associations must comply. The Criteria define best practices with regard to standards for accreditation, the self-study process, the work of the visiting committee, and the role of the association in overseeing the program and determining the accreditation status of schools. 

The member associations of the NAIS Commission on Accreditation are accountable to one another through a process patterned on the school accreditation model.   The NEASC Commission on Independent Schools completed a self-study in 2002, hosted a review team, and has been recognized by the NAIS Board which affirmed its “confidence in the quality of the association’s accreditation program for independent schools.”
